Tom Sullivan
By Jennifer Colosimo

Chances are, you probably already know longtime Brookhaven resident and Best Self Atlanta Over 40 & Fabulous alum Tom Sullivan. He spent 30 years on the radio and has hosted decades’ worth of events across Metro Atlanta, never meeting a stranger. What you may not know is the motivation behind the man—he’s got a big heart for good causes and uses his platform to advocate for them. We learned about why it’s so fun to do that in Brookhaven, and how he is giving back to those neighbors right now.

How does it feel to be back on the radio?

Tom Sullivan: I LOVE IT! I worked in radio for 30 years before COVID, but I am having even more fun, now, on FOX-FM (102.1 in Atlanta.) Our owner, Chris Murray, believes in me and allows me to come alive and shine! I absolutely love all the music from the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and more that we play and my Totally ‘80s Show on Friday nights is a party! I am jumping out of my skin at the kickin’ jams we play.

What local causes and events are you passionate about?

TS: Brookhaven Bolt is an annual Peachtree qualifier that I’ve hosted since 2008 and benefits Ashford Park Elementary School. The race takes place through the great neighborhoods in Brookhaven and grows larger every year. I also love how people support the Chamblee Electronics Recycling event that happens every month. I’ll also host Studio 54 again on New Year’s Eve at Arnette’s Chop Shop where a huge disco ball spins over a lit dance floor—a true club experience!

What makes living in this community unique?

TS: Chamblee has really grown over the past several years and, just like Brookhaven, property values are rising. Living in Brookhaven/Chamblee is all about convenience. I enjoy close proximity to everything including I-85, Buckhead and the surrounding areas. Plus, my neighbors are people from all walks of life.

What are your favorite places to frequent in Brookhaven?

TS: I love There Bar, a gastro pub with an entirely chef-driven menu. Michel Arnette’s restaurants Haven, Valenza, Vero and Arnette’s Chop Shop are great, cozy dining experiences. For Greek food, I enjoy The Greek Pizzeria and Gyros on Clairmont Road.  Johnny’s grandmother’s pizza crust there is outstanding!,
